Letter # 1796 Christmas Shoes #1796

I know this 67 year old man living with HIV. He has been homeless but was determined to not let his homelessness define him.
He did not have the easiest childhood. He was physically and sexually abused as a child. He knew early that he would not repeat the abuse. He often had to protect his sister and their relationship is strong because of it.
Newly housed, he is sharing a house with others. He’s a positive influence for the younger men in the household and often shares how he is encouraging and changing their lives in a loving and non-judgemental way.
Recently because of his deteriorating health, he needs a walking cane to get around. Not to let this slow him down, all this affects his walking and balance. When asked what he wanted for Christmas, he told me he could use new shoes. “A good pair of size 13.5 wide walking shoes with gel insoles”.
Santa it would be so nice to grant this wish of new shoes. This man asks for so little, and the benefits would enable him to continue his independence in comfort.
