Letter # 236 Isolated bed-ridden woman asks for tv to help connect with outside world Letter # 236

I am writing this letter to you on behalf of Rebecca who lives in Petaluma.

I am writing to you today because Rebecca has a problem. My client has a low income, receiving only Social Security Disability Insurance every month. She has Section 8 to help subsidize her senior apartment. She has been unable to work since age 50 due to debilitating physical impairments related to Multiple Sclerosis, as well as other medical issues. She is not able to sit up for long periods of time because of this impairment and walking is very difficult, requiring assertive devices. Therefore, Rebecca spends most of her day lying down in bed because of these health issues.
She never had children and is not married. Most of her friends have moved out of the Bay Area due to high cost of living. She has a very elderly mother who lives in a nursing home in Georgia and two brothers, one with an intellectual disability, living in Georgia as well. She is very socially isolated, visited only by her caregiver, despite having a very pleasant demeanor and much to converse about.

I am hoping that Secret Santa can help Rebecca out by granting this wish. Because she is confined to bed most of the hours of the day, her only forms of entertainment are reading and watching movies. Her current television is on the fritz and she anticipates it will break down any day now. She does not have the funds to replace it.
Her dream is to have a 50" flat screen "4k" TV to bring the world to her, as she is not able to go out into the world.

If Rebecca were able to get this help from Secret Santa it would help. This client is very isolated and does not leave her home often due to her physical impairments. She is confined to bed most of her day, and needs to lie horizontally due to her condition. A large television would not only bring her pleasure, but it would bring the outside world in to her. I believe this would improve her quality of life and happiness.

Thank you for considering my client for this Secret Santa gift!

By checking this box you agree to fulfill this wish.
